Simplify Your Life

simplify-your-lifeThe simplest and most dramatic step you can take to raise your level of consciousness is to eliminate clutter in your life. Real transformation, growth and awareness is a matter of what is on the inside not the outside.

We get fixated on accumulating material things in our life and we miss what is important, being in the moment. Too often we live in our ego which is the part of us that wants to accumulate material things. It wants us to plan, strategize and move at a sometimes frantic pace. Whereas if we life in our sprit frequency we know that everything is fine the way it is, we just need to slow down and enjoy the moment.

You cannot be totally conscious and live in the moment if you are preoccupied with disorganization, if you are overwhelmed, rushed and struggling with unfinished business. You must clear away the distractions that are preventing you from hearing your inner voice.

Reflect for a moment on your environment, whether it’s your office at work, your home or your car, is the environment neat clear and organized or is it a mess? If your environment is a mess that is where your attention is going to be; you are not going to be able to tune into your intuition if you are preoccupied with mess, clutter or a back log of work.

If there is something in your life that you do not need it is taking your energy away from being totally conscious and in the moment. It is taking you away from hearing the voice of your spirit and being able to create at the highest level.

To certain degree the clutter in your life is physical. Everyone has a junk drawer, closet or room in their house or apartment containing all the things we don’t use but can’t bring ourselves to throw out. Somewhere in the back of your mind you know that all these pieces of junk are causing you mental clutter as well as physical clutter.

Jazz musician and composer Miles Davis once said, “I always listen for what I can leave out.”

If you have things that you haven’t used or looked at in over a year chances are you never will and you need to get rid of them. You need to get rid of all the clutter. If there are things that are not doing you any good then maybe they will do someone else good, so start giving things away that you don’t need. If you find that you just can’t part with some of your clutter get a friend who has no attachment to these things to help get rid what you don’t need. If your friend really has to make you fight to get rid of something then maybe you should keep it.

You should examine your life every six months because there is always something there that is taking up space but not contributing. If it’s not contributing positively to your life move it out or give it away. Look at your decisions, are you saying yes when you really mean no? Are you pleasing others because you’re operating out of fear? Do you have too much work? Do you have too much junk? Do you have too much on your plate? Asking these questions every six months will help keep your life simple.

Author, poet and philosopher, Henry David Thorough wrote, “As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler, solitude will be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness, weakness.”

Our society has created in us and given us the illusion that there is some future to get to; some place tomorrow that is better than today that we are racing for.  If we push hard enough we’ll get there next month, next year or when we retire, but we never seem to get there. Living this way diminishes the power of the moment and we miss our creative opportunities where our spirit can guide us and enhance the opportunities that we have to bring us the kind of fulfillment we desire.

When we live at the proper pace, clear up the clutter in our life it simplifies it and frees up energy which allows life to be easier, more fulfilling and even more enlightened.
