Asking for divine guidance can be challenging. And how do know if you can trust it when it comes? We aren’t sure if we are meant to trust our thoughts, our feelings, our dreams, or our intuition to be carriers of divine wisdom.
Divine guidance comes in many forms, and it is sometimes hard to recognize. It might come in the form of a symbol or a sign of some kind that you see. It could be something you hear such as a song. Or it could be a feeling you get in your gut and you just know it’s divine guidance.
Guidance is very quick and subtle. It can be a gentle nudge. The biggest problem that most people have is, when they get divine guidance, they allow their ego to swat it away and trample all over it. Or they question it and ask the opinions of others. Once you start to question guidance or hesitate, you lose it. When you get divine guidance, you have to act on it.
The ability to sort all this out comes with trial and error, and the best way to learn to recognize divine guidance is to engage in the process of asking and receiving.
I am often asked the question, “how do you know if you are actually getting divine guidance or if it’s just your ego?” The answer is, if it’s true divine guidance it makes you feel good, it’s warm and loving. It doesn’t put you down and it’s not negative in any way.
On the other hand, if it’s not divine guidance, it can make feel uneasy, nervous, and angry. It is not warm or loving and you don’t feel good about it.
Sometimes when we ask for guidance, we already have a sense of what we want to hear. At such times, receiving guidance can be difficult, because we don’t want to hear anything that appears to be in opposition to our desire. Therefore, one of the most important qualities we need to cultivate if we are to receive guidance is an open mind. It helps to acknowledge what we want, and then to symbolically set it aside, making room for whatever wisdom comes through to us.
Cultivating an active relationship with the divine is the essential ingredient to being able to receive and trust guidance when it comes our way. We can make a daily practice of this by using tools such as a set of rune stones, a deck of oracle cards, or a pendulum. Writing daily in a journal is a wonderful way of developing a relationship with the divine through the written word.
As you request and receive guidance, it’s important to take notes on your experiences. Over time you will begin to recognize when you were able to hear correctly and when you were not. In this way, you will gradually attune yourself to your particular relationship with the divine. You will begin to tame your ego and trust the guidance you are receiving and soon you will find it flowing with ease.
The most important part of guidance is to act on it when you receive it. Once you begin to trust and act on the guidance you receive it will not only flow more freely but it will open you open to synchronicities and miraculous manifestations
